Magneto-optical micro-optical accelerometer

As an inertial sensor for position and velocity measurement, the acceleration sensor plays a key role in inertial navigation, gravitational wave detection in space, satellite gravity gradient measurement, precision orbiting and navigation of high-orbit satellites, and monitoring of the microgravity environment of spacecraft. It is not only the ‘eyes’ of the weaponry, determining the precision of the strike and the effect of destruction, but also as the core of the ‘brain’ of the satellite and the spacecraft, monitoring the flight trajectory in real time. Therefore, the performance of acceleration sensors is an important symbol of national defence strength, but also one of the core technologies that countries are competing to develop.

Magneto-optical micro-optical accelerometer

Micro-optical acceleration sensing technology (MOEMS) combines the advantages of miniaturisation and low cost of MEMS technology and the high precision of optical detection, and has become the main direction of acceleration sensor development. With the advancement of optical quantum precision measurement technology, the accuracy of spin angle detection based on Faraday spin effect has been improving, and the synthesis of magneto-optical crystals with high Verdet constants has provided new measurement methods for micro-optical sensing technology. However, the structure of micro-optical accelerometers is susceptible to noise such as temperature and vibration, and although a temperature-control system is usually employed to suppress the noise, temperature-noise control becomes a technological bottleneck in higher-precision measurements.
